Use Howdy Ag from Claude or ChatGPT
Ask about your farm in plain English, and record what happened by telling it, from the AI app you already use. Your own AI plan covers the AI. Howdy Ag answers from your records.

Things to ask
- “How many active cattle do I have, by breed?”
- “What did I spend on hay this year, and who did I buy it from?”
- “Which pastures are overdue for a move?”
- “Who's due to calve next, and when?”
- “What does my Schedule F look like so far this year?”
- “What did it cost me to raise a steer last year?”
Things to record
When you allow it to add and change records, you can tell it what happened:
- “I spent $86.40 at Tractor Supply today on mineral, paid by card.”
- “Log 7 eggs today and 6 yesterday.”
- “Daisy weighed 612 pounds this morning.”
- “I moved the herd to the north pasture this afternoon.”
- “Remind me to order hay next Friday.”
- “Drove 37 miles round trip to the feed store today in the truck.”
It can record:
- Expenses and income, mapped to Schedule F
- Business trips for the mileage deduction
- Weights and animal details
- Treatments, vaccinations and vet visits
- Breedings and pregnancy checks
- Daily egg counts
- Pasture moves
- Tasks and reminders
- Equipment maintenance and use
Sales, deaths, animal purchases, invoices and new animals stay in Howdy Ag, so the books follow the app's own steps.
Connect Claude
On claude.ai or the Claude desktop or phone app, with your own Claude account.
- Open Customize → Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector.
- Name it Howdy Ag and paste this address:
https://www.howdyag.farm/api/mcp - Under OAuth client choose Register automatically, then click Add.
- Sign in to Howdy Ag, pick your farm, tick Also let Claude add and change records if you want that, and click Allow.
- In a chat, open + → Connectors and make sure Howdy Ag is on.
On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds the connector first under Organization settings → Connectors.
Connect ChatGPT
Custom connectors depend on your ChatGPT plan and its developer settings.
- Add a custom MCP server (ChatGPT may call it an app, connector or plugin) with the address above.
- For authentication choose OAuth.
- Sign in to Howdy Ag, pick your farm, tick the box to allow changes if you want that, and click Allow.
- Turn Howdy Ag on in a chat.
You stay in control
- Read-only unless you allow changes, for each app separately.
- It only sees the farm you pick, and only what your role on that farm can see.
- It tells you what it's about to save and checks with you first.
- Deleting takes a second confirmation.
- Every change shows in your farm's Change History, labeled with the app, and what it adds can be undone there.
- Disconnect it, or set it back to read-only, any time in Settings → Account.
The farm data you ask about goes to the AI app you connect, under your own account with its provider, and that provider's terms cover how it's handled. See our Privacy Policy and Terms.
Troubleshooting
- Claude says sign-in failed when I add the connector.
- Remove the connector and add it again. In the Add custom connector dialog, under OAuth client, choose Register automatically. Howdy Ag's sign-in only works with that option.
- It says the app isn't connected to a farm.
- Remove Howdy Ag from your AI app's connectors and add it again. On the Howdy Ag page that opens, pick your farm and click Allow.
- It says it's read-only, but I want it to record things.
- In Howdy Ag, open Settings → Account → Connected AI apps and turn on Can add and change records for that app. Then start a new chat so it picks up the new tools.
- It says I need a different plan, or that my role doesn't include AI tools.
- Connecting an AI app is part of Homestead and Plus. New farms get 30 days of Homestead free, no card. If someone else owns the farm, ask them to give your role AI tools.
- Howdy Ag doesn't show up in my chat.
- In the chat, open the connectors menu (+ → Connectors in Claude) and turn Howdy Ag on. After changing what it may do, start a new chat.
- ChatGPT doesn't let me add a custom connector.
- Custom connectors depend on your ChatGPT plan and its developer settings, and an admin may need to turn them on. Claude's Free, Pro and Max plans can all add one.
- It saved something wrong.
- Ask it to fix the record, or open Change History in Howdy Ag and click Undo on the entry. Records an AI app added can be undone in one click unless someone edited them since.
